Napoleon and French Revolution collection Napoleon and French Revolution collection. 1789-1916. Approximately 294 prints and drawings consisting of: 233 engravings, 25 lithographs, 24 photogravures, 4 albumen prints, 2 watercolours, 1 pen and ink drawing, 1 printed pencil sketch, 1 typogravure, and 1 photographic reproduction. 25 are in colour. There are a number of duplicates.This collection of prints and drawings visually documents France and its imperial ambitions, notably the end of the Ancien Régime (Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette), the French Revolution, Napoleon reigns as Emperor and his defeat in 1815, and Napoleon III and the Second Republic. Descriptions of each print or drawing consists of the title (sometimes supplied), measurement, the names of the artist, engraver, publisher or printer, and the source (sometimes a previous collection or from a museum or publication). Title based on content of the collection. The collection was acquired from Alan J. Davis (12-2011) in March 2011. Finding aid available electronically. There are no access restrictions. Further accruals are not expected. |
