Crombie family fonds. – Second accrual.  – 1861-2007. – 1.2 m of textual records and graphic material.


Note: In all possible cases, maiden names have been used in this description. Where correspondence has been between family members, letters have been placed in the file of the sender. For conservation purposes, graphic and oversized materials have been collected into separate series.

Series 1
Documents. – 1907-2003. – 12.5 cm of textual records. – Title based on content of series.
Series is comprised of a variety of papers concerning the Atkins and Crombie families, together with the related Parker, Reynolds and Craig families. These papers include legal and municipal documents, awards, announcements, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and diaries. They reflect the activities and interests of the members of these families throughout the time period, encompassing topics such as stock breeding, sports, education, politics, British royalty, and the people of their communities. Arrangement has been made in alphabetical order by surname or subject.

Mar Stirling (first husband of Isabel Wardell) of the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles.

File consists of: registration book for green Vauxhall imported by Snyder from England; Ontario motor vehicle permit; and two insurance certificates.

Series 2
Photographs and Artwork. – [187-?]-1981. – 47.5 cm of graphic materials. – Title based on content of series.
Series consists of black-and-white and colour photographic prints, film and glass negatives, and artwork (drawing in Box 35). All listings of multiple subjects, where given, are from left to right. Throughout these materials, archival staff have made notes in pencil, chiefly identifying subjects of photographs, both on the reverse of photographs themselves and also on mounting cardboard. These notes have not been included in this description. Arrangement had been made in roughly alphabetical fashion according to the chief (usually eldest) subject. File consists of: certificate of the Life Underwriters Association of Canada; royal commission appointing Ernest Reynolds to the rank of Captain in No. 21 (Infantry) Reserve Corp, Veteran’s Guard of Canada, Canadian Army. Commission signed by H. DesRosiers, Deputy Minister of National Defence. His appointment appears to have been retroactively granted, as the commission was signed in 1944 but it details his appointment to be effective in 1940.

The verso bears twice-repeated inscription “Brantford” in brown ink, and pencil inscription reading: “Reynolds / ¼ Ebony / Sat. / 237.”
